Need a Lift to Your Job Interview? Lyft May Have You Covered – FREE

The rideshare service Lyft is helping job seekers get rides to and from interviews, as well as, job training programs. They’ll even give out rides to and from work during the first few weeks of employment! Lyft’s Jobs Access Program is available through a partnership with multiple non-profit organizations including the United Way.

Who Qualifies?

The free Lyft rides can’t be booked through the Lyft app by just anyone who says they are going to an interview. The program was designed to help close the transportation gap in low-income communities. The announcement by Lyft stated, “For the unemployed, reliable transportation to a job interview or to the first few weeks of work can mean the difference between successful, long-term employment and lost opportunities,”

Job seekers looking for jobs with the help of select non-profit organizations can qualify for not only free or reduced rides to interviews, but also for job training programs and rides to and from their new job for the first three weeks of employment. Aside from the United Way, Lyft has partnered with the National Down Syndrome Society, The USO, Goodwill, Generation, YearUp, #cut50 (Dream Corps), The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth, and Upwardly Global.

Each of these non-profit organizations helps people find jobs as well as providing essential employment factors such as job training. The program is available in 35 different markets in the U.S. and Canada. If you are a job seeker working with any of these non-profit organizations, you may qualify for free rides to help get you back into the workforce.

Lyft Announcement

In May, the company announced a $50 million annual commitment, which included donated transportation. The Jobs Seeker Program is part of that initiative which is helping more people find, and retain work, including those with disabilities. One of their partners, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) helps place people with Down Syndrome into long-term employment opportunities.

The Director of Government Relations for NDSS’ Ashley Helsing said, “There are roughly two million people living with disabilities in the United States. Of those two million, nearly 30 percent, or 560,000 people, are unable to leave their homes because of transportation barriers. The ability to get around easily, especially for employment in the disability community, is crucial to the future.”

The new program offered by Lyft is helping to close the transportation gap that is keeping people from finding jobs. If you are looking for work, one of the non-profit organizations may be able to help–and Lyft can help, too, with free rides.
